The name of the city Arni came from the Aranyam. In olden days the city was surrounded by Athi trees and there was a river called Kamandala Naga River and the river and tree looks liked an ornament. So the city was called as Arni. Arni plays a main part in the Freedom struggle in Indian Freedom. Arni is famous for Silk and Rice. There is a holy place in Arni called Padaiveedu. The popular temples in the city are Venugopalaswamy temple and Sri Renugammbal Temple. As it is famous for silks the major profession of the people here is silk weaving. The silk weavers are called as Sengunthars. Silk is one of the attractive dress material which is unique dress worn by women of Indian. It gives them traditional appearance. Many techniques were handled by this people while weaving silk sarees. The other important business in the city is Rice business.
